Through the Friends of the Greenbelt Fund, Green Thumbs is partnering with Wheelbarrow Farm to offer an exciting interactive field trip in Uxbridge, Ontario!
We had the amazing opportunity to attend this trip the past 2 Fridays, learning about permaculture practices in farming, solar energy and other energy conserving practices. We got to see the solar powered tractor and cool off in a homemade walk in fridge!
Meeting local farmers and a young group of staff was also a terrific way to learn about local food systems, how people are getting involved and how to create profitable organic produce, in the current food economy.
We got to ask questions about growing our own produce, harvest and try fresh peas and berries, and learning about on-the-farm projects, growing hemp and turning different berries into wine!
If you are a youth between 15-30, take advantage of this berry exciting, and completely FREE opportunity and join us on
July 19th and/or July 26th from 11:00am – 3:00pm at the Wheelbarrow Farms
Pick up will be at Centre for Social Innovation-Regent Park, 585 Dundas Street East at 10:00 am sharp, and drop off at the same place at 4 pm.
