"I learned not to step on baby plants. This is the best day of my life!"
That's a real quote from a Grade 1 student in one of our school gardens. For thousands of Toronto kids, our programs are the first time they plant a seed, pull a carrot from the dirt, or eat a tomato they grew themselves.
This year alone, we worked with 65 teachers across nine school and community gardens. At Eastdale Collegiate, students grew and harvested over 400 pounds of sweet potatoes through our brand-new Slips to Chips program. At Sprucecourt, Rose Avenue, and other schools, we ran weekly garden classes from spring through fall.
"Every school and every student should have the opportunity to work with Green Thumbs and the type of holistic programming they provide."
— Jason Kenemy, Teacher, Eastdale CIThe school system doesn't fund this work. Foundations and individual donors do. Your Earth Day gift pays for the seeds, the soil, the tools, and the staff who make these moments happen.
