Youth unemployment is a serious concern in our communities. At the same time, environmental and food awareness is increasing among young people. Many would like to work in the food sector, especially in local, sustainable agriculture, from hands-in-the-dirt jobs right up through to policy and planning for urban sustainability and resilience. Our summer jobs programs have given youth a great set of experiences not only raising food and learning all about compost, but also supporting our children’s programming, including arts and construction. We look forward to developing Good Green Jobs for Youth with our partners in the community and in the universities.
